A Natural Treatment For Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
This is one of a series of articles which discuss to what extent the human body can cure itself of serious illnesses, and how one can boost the immune system to aid this process. As I pointed out in another article, I am not a doctor and have no medical training. However, I am a patient with experience of serious illness and I, on the advice of my medical advisors, treated that illness by boosting my immune system in order that my body could fight off both the symptoms and cause of the illness.
Read my other articles for an account of how I conquered pancreatitis by drinking aloe vera juice. This drink helps in two ways: it is anti-inflammatory; and it has been proven to boost the body’s immune system.
Many digestive problems are the result of inflammation. One example is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which affects 10-20% of the population. IBS is not a life-threatening illness, but the symptoms can force the sufferer into a change of life style. The symptoms are pains in the stomach; flatulence; an urgent need to use the toilet; and changing bowel habits, fluctuating between constipation and diarrhea. The need to use the toilet at short notice can lead to incontinence at worst, and will often mean that the person with irritable bowel syndrome will be reluctant to leave the house for fear that a toilet may not be available when needed. This can lead to depression. So, although the condition may not be life threatening, it can and does have a major impact on the patient’s life.
Diet can have an effect on IBS. It is recommended that those with IBS reduce their intake of insoluble fibre by cutting down on whole grains like brown rice and wholemeal bread; while at the same time increasing their intake of soluble fibre by eating more oats, barley, fruit such as apples and bananas, and root vegetables like potatoes and carrots.
Some foods can trigger an attack of irritable bowel syndrome. Eat less chocolate (sorry!); cut down on drinks containing caffeine; and drink more water – this will help if you have constipation. If you have bouts of diarrhea then avoid the artificial sweetener ‘sorbitol’. Eating more oats should help if flatulence is a problem.
Whilst individual doctors have met with success when recommending that a patient drinks aloe vera juice to combat IBS; a placebo-controlled, double-blind trial is needed before the medical profession generally accepts that aloe vera is a proven remedy to IBS. Such a trial is taking place at a hospital in Swansea, Wales. The trial is not yet complete and it will be a while before results are to hand. In the meantime, if you suffer from IBS you have nothing to lose by drinking aloe vera juice; there are no reported side effects.
All Natural Remedies for Sleep Problems
Sleep problems are encountered by multitudes of people across the world, and affect people from all walks of life and backgrounds. These sleep problems, though not new by any means, seem to be becoming worse because of the irregular work schedule and work pressure that builds up every day in this fast paced world. People do not find enough time to relax and give both their mind and body time to rejuvenate. Individuals too often sacrifice their sleep for social as well as work or familial commitments. They sometimes tend to think that they will be able to make up for the lost sleep the following night, but often the next night’s sleep is just as unsatisfying, leading to weeks and then to months of poor sleeping habits. They may never realize the problem until it becomes severe enough to disrupt their daily work activities. The results of sleep deprivation can be damaging to the mental as well as physical well being of a person. A weakened immune system, high blood pressure and obesity are some of the most common consequences of sleep deprivation. However, there are some herbal remedies that can help an individual get back to a normal sleeping schedule.

Diet and sleep both play a major role in the overall health of an individual. When a person’s diet or sleep is not optimal, the results can be damaging to the body. Rest helps the body to cope with stress and diet provides the necessary energy to perform work. Ojas – which is the coordinator between one’s mind, soul and body – is enhanced by sleep. If someone does not get enough good, restful sleep, then Ojas may not be able to help the mind deal with stress or strengthen the body’s immune system. This can result in an imbalance of Vata, Kapha or Pitta, which are the three energies (or doshas) that govern all mental and physical energies. This imbalance in the proper functioning of the body can be treated with all natural remedies rather than with prescription medicines that are chemical based and too many times can result in unpleasant side effects for the body in the long run. Thus, alternative herbal medicines should be adopted for the purpose, combined with a proper diet and sleeping schedule. Natural remedies have essential elements that can eliminate the problem right at its roots, and lead to an overall more healthful state of mind and body.
What The Hell Is Qigong?
I’m frequently asked by people to explain what Qigong/Chi Kung is. Even though it’s been around for over 5000 years in one shape or form, it’s still virtually unheard of here in the West. Problem is, those who think they know what it is are usually mistaken.
I usually explain that it is a way of deliberately working with the bodies vital energy to promote health, vitality, longevity and happiness.
If they’re still interested I’ll show that Qigong is usually characterised by slow, graceful movements, co-ordinated with the breathing and performed in what is known as a Qigong state of mind (QSoM).
If they’re still with me I’ll mention that it is a composite of Form, Energy and Mind.
And in this article I’d like to look at each of these in a little more detail:
Form is obvious; it’s the bit you can see. You can watch someone doing a Qigong exercise and say: “Oh, they’re doing lifting the sky.” But as you know if they are just doing the form then they are only doing lifting the sky form and not Qigong. And there is a massive difference between the two.
Viagra super active
Energy – Qigong means to work on vital energy. An excellent way to work on energy is through the breathing. Qigong is not the Art of Breathing, but breathing is an excellent means to generate Energy Flow. There is a Qigong saying that: “Life is a meaningful flow of energy.” It is energy flow that removes blockages to the meaningful flow of energy through our bodies. When we meaningful energy flow we have good health, vitality and long life.
Mind – is the most important part of the three and probably the one I have to work the hardest on. From my own experience I have discovered that one of the best ways to get my mind into the best state to help my Qigong practice is through entering into a really powerful QSoM, right at the start of my practice session.
I’ve found that a good QSoM helps to keep idle, internal chatter still why I do my “inner work”.
Higher levels of Qigong like Dan Tien breathing, Small Universe, and Big Universe etc require your mind to focus on specific actions. But for dynamic Qigong patterns like those from the Shaolin 18 Lohan Hands and 18 Shaolin Exercises a good QSoM is more than enough to aide you in getting all the results and benefits of practicing Qigong.
The important ‘take away’ from this article is that Qigong consists of form, energy and mind with mind being the most important. If you only practice the external movements of Qigong, you are actually practicing Qigong form, not Qigong.
Whilst there is nothing wrong with Qigong form, it helps to promote blood flow, stretches and loosens the muscles of the body. It is not powerful enough to overcome illness and promote health, vitality and longevity.
The bad news is that most of what is taught as Qigong today is actually Qigong form. Armed with the information in this article, you now know the difference.
Prevent Underarm Sweating Tips
Why you sweat is due to a couple of reasons. It’s your body’s way to regulate its temperature and to flush out toxins that have accumulated inside you. But too much sweating can be socially embarrassing as people can see those wet spots all the time. Luckily, you can prevent underarm sweating effectively in some natural ways.
Take a shower or bath before you start your busy day. This will regulate your body’s temperature early on, so it won’t have to sweat unnecessarily. This can also keep you from having another embarrassing thing, which is underarm odor. With it, people around you can see your problem, and smell it. During summer days, you should take a shower or a bath more often to boost your confidence.
By allowing as much air circulating in the area as possible, your armpits can be cooler and drier. Shave your underarms to enable air to flow on the skin there. And because there’s no more hair, nothing can trap sweat. Warm and moist areas promote bacterial growth, which can lead to body odor.
Drop by your local pharmacy and purchase an OTC antiperspirant. Apply it right after taking a shower or bath. However, some individuals may end up with skin irritations. If you’re one of them with sensitive skin, worry not. That’s because there’s a natural alternative: baking soda. Baking soda isn’t only good for baking and cleaning, but it’s also a natural deodorant and antiperspirant.
Stick to wearing shirts made from cotton or other natural fibers. That’s because synthetic ones will keep your skin from being able to breathe. Wear loose fitting shirts to maximize airflow towards your underarms. Dark colors, especially black, tend to absorb heat, so it’s best to stick to whites and other light colors.
What you eat also is a role player in your quest to keep your armpits cool and dry. Cut back on eating foods that are hot or spicy. Spices can cause your body to heat up, thereby triggering your sweat glands to do their job. Also, spices can mix with your sweat, making everyone around you to want to flee. Go for iced versions of hot beverages you like to keep your body as cool as possible.
Dealing with stress properly is another way to prevent underarm sweating. Find out the things which cause you to be stressed out, and try to dodge them. Take on some activities which can effectively combat stress. Keeping a journal, taking up yoga, doing deep breathing exercises, listening to music and reading a book are just some of them. I personally managed to get rid of all my sweat problems with a step by step sweat removal guide and highly recommend it.
Benefits of Wheatgrass – Nature’s Most Powerful Elixir
Wheatgrass shots can digest in as little as 3 minutes. This is so astounding because one two ounce wheatgrass shot that you drink in one gulp packs the nutritional punch of two and a half pounds of fresh organic vegetables.
Such a flood of nutrition makes juicing wheatgrass immediately beneficial. Drink just 2 ounces of wheatgrass on a fairly empty stomach and expect:
- An instant and lasting energy boost
- Increased mental clarity and focus
- Rapid pain relief and reduced inflammation
- Relief from cold, flu, or virus symptoms due to an enlivened immune system
Wheatgrass has more vitamin A than the most nutritious dark green vegetables, more calcium than milk, more potassium than bananas, more magnesium then carrots – the list goes on and on. The point is that wheatgrass contains an abundance of virtually every nutrient your body needs to thrive – from the most basic vitamins down to the little known trace minerals.
But it’s more than just unbeatable nutrition that gives wheatgrass that instant “zing.” Wheatgrass is also a premier source of living enzymes.
Within the minute you gulp down a wheatgrass shot, enzymes go straight to work so that your body can stop wasting its own limited stores of these vital metabolic “workers.” This results in greatly enhanced bodily function:
- Quicker and more efficient digestion
- Balanced brain function for better mood
- A more responsive nervous system for faster reflexes and quicker thinking
Perhaps the most important ingredient in the revitalizing elixir of fresh wheatgrass juice is chlorophyll. Yes, the same pigment that makes plants green is good for you! Chlorophyll is so similar to human blood that our body converts it to red blood cells. The influx of hemoglobin in your system means:
- More oxygen to the brain for rapid stress relief
- Strengthened blood flow for speed healing
- More physical stamina
- Quicker and more complete workout recoveries
Wheatgrass truly is the best superfood. Where else can you find a complete source of all essential amino acids (protein), vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that takes just seconds to consume? Anyone looking to improve their health should take advantage of the immense power of this natural medicine. See if your local whole food or health store offers wheatgrass shots. Be sure to drink them right away! Enzymes in wheatgrass die within 20 minutes of juicing and antioxidants become inactive after about an hour. Fresh juice is most potent and effective!
The Liver – From a Traditional Chinese Medicine Standpoint
If there is one thing I’ve learned over the course of the years, it is that there is a lot of room for misinterpretation of the language of Chinese medicine. When a client walks into my office, I explain that the language of acupuncture is different; when I am discussing your kidney, I’m not talking about your physical kidney. It can be very confusing for someone not used to the language. For this reason, I tend to talk more about blood and qi, to be on safer ground. People don’t seem to get overly nervous when I tell them that they have stagnation, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to explain that even though I’m treating the kidney, no, they are not experiencing kidney failure!
So, I thought that I would spend some time clarifying just what the energetic organ systems do. Today we’ll start with the liver.
In Western medicine, the basic job of the liver is to filter. It stores blood, and cleans toxins from the body, and is known for its amazing powers of regeneration.
In TCM, it also has a lot to do with blood. Are you pale, fatigued, dizzy? The liver is not sending out enough blood. These symptoms, along with insomnia, floaters in the eyes, and depression, are all symptoms of blood deficiency, which means your liver needs some work, and I need to build your blood. The liver also controls the tendons, which means that if you are one of those people who are always very tight, your liver needs to loosen up!
Other physical symptoms of liver issues are neck and shoulder pain and tightness, headaches (especially severe headaches, such as migraines), high blood pressure, hernias, genital issues, PMS, and alternating diarrhea and constipation. This doesn’t cover nearly all of the problems of the body that can stem from the liver; it’s just a general and brief overview.
From an emotional standpoint, the liver has a lot to do with stress, anger, and boundaries. Just as a liver imbalance leaves the tendons too tight, it can also lead to a tightness of the spirit. Imagine this: a red-faced hypertensive man waiting impatiently in line at a store, huffing and puffing because he has to wait like everyone else. He is pointedly looking at his watch, and glaring at the cashier.
Every once in a while he bumps into the woman in front of him as he checks his watch, and she moves back, submitting to him and allowing him to take over her personal space. He is becoming more and more furious by the minute, because he is late for his scheduled activities. Most people would describe this guy as a controlling jerk, but in the world of acupuncture, he simply has an imbalance of the liver!
I don’t mean to imply that all people who have a liver imbalance act this way, or that the liver is responsible for creating miserable “Type A”s. This liver energy is necessary for creating useful boundaries as well, and for keeping us on track. Without it, we wouldn’t have a sense of purpose, and we wouldn’t be able to get anything done.
The key is balance. We could take another look at that line the angry man was in, and take into consideration the woman who was bumped into. Her imbalance of liver energy in the opposite direction creates a lack of boundaries, allowing her to have a “push-over” mentality. When someone steps into her personal space, she steps back. She lacks the assertiveness that a strong liver energy can bring forth.
So when you come in for an acupuncture treatment and I tell you that I’m treating your liver, don’t assume that cirrhosis has set in. I may actually be treating your neck…and the chip on your shoulder.
Ashwagandha Offers Herbal Rejuvenation
For anyone who suffers from overwork, overindulgence, nervousness, chronic fatigue, low libido or restlessness, the medicinal herb, ashwagandha, may be a good choice for you, as a general herbal tonic. Ashwagandha, also known as “Winter Cherry” has been used in traditional Indian and African medicine for centuries. The plant contains chemicals that work as a restorative element, to help combat the effects of daily stress and to strengthen the immune system after an illness.
Ashwagandha is a unique herb with anti-stress adaptogenic action that helps us cope with the stress of everyday life. It promotes the body’s ability to maintain homeostasis, resist stress and stimulate the immune system. Ashwagandha prevents or minimizes imbalances from; poor diet, lack of sleep, mental or physical strain, or chemical toxins in the environment, which can lead to disease. It is especially beneficial in stress related disorders such as hypertension, high blood pressure and insomnia.
The literal meaning of the name, ashwagandha, is from the Sanskrit language. It is a combination of the word ashva, meaning horse, and gandha, meaning smell or sweat. The symbolic meaning indicates that the herb possesses the virile spirit and power a horse. It is often referred to as “Indian ginseng” even though, botanically, ginseng and ashwagandha are unrelated.
Although the ashwagandha plant is cultivated in many of the drier regions of India, northern Africa, and the Middle East it is now being cultivated in milder climates, like the United States, as well. It is a short shrub with leaves that are covered with a dense matte of wooly hairs, small green flowers and orange-red fruit (the size of a raisin) with coagulating properties. The tuberous roots are more common in Western herbal remedies, but the leaves and flowers also possess beneficial therapeutic applications. Ashwagandha contains many useful medicinal chemicals, including withanolides, (steroidal lactones), alkaloids, choline, fatty acids, amino acids, and a variety of sugars.
The rejuvenating properties of ashwagandha help nourish tissues, particularly muscle and bone, while supporting the proper function of the adrenal glands and the reproductive system. It has been used as mild muscle relaxer and as an anti-inflammatory for a variety of ailments including arthritis, asthma, bronchitis, backache, fibromyalgia and menstrual discomfort.
Ashwagandha has been used to balance, strengthen, and calm the nervous system. Researchers at the University of Texas found that the extract of ashwagandha performed in a similar manner to GABA. Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system and plays a role in regulating neuronal excitability. In humans, GABA is also directly responsible for the regulation of muscle tone. This might explain why ashwagandha is so effective in reducing stress, anxiety and depression. It has been used as an herbal treatment for mental ailments, convulsions, seizures, panic attacks, mood fluctuations, lowered mental power, mental retardation, phobias, schizophrenia, psychosis, epilepsy, bipolar disorder, insomnia and alcohol paranoia.
Not surprisingly, ashwagandha is a wonderful aphrodisiac. Since prehistoric times, it is believed that Ashwagandha has the ability to enhance sexual activity. It is mentioned in the kama sutra and is a common herb used in ayurvedic medicine for impotency. Ashwagandha strengthens both male and female reproductive systems, increases lactation, increases sperm count and helps with infertility while increasing libido.
However, the most common cause of functional male impotency is often accompanied by a low sperm count and low sperm mobility. Male impotency can be physiological, psychological, or both. Ashwagandha has been found to effectively reduce oxidative stress and is traditionally used as a sexual tonic for men for this reason. Ashwagandha is a powerful aphrodisiac that helps in enhance sexual powers and physical endurance and promotes fertility.
The applications for overall wellbeing that can be managed with ashwagandha are endless. It is a tonic for overall good health and stamina. To slow the debilitations of aging, as a mild sedative and muscle relaxer, as an antioxidant, to improve respiratory, memory and brain function to strengthen the nerve tissue and to promote restful sleep and an overall sense of wellbeing, ashwagandha may be just what you have been looking for.
Contraindications: Do not use Ashwagandha Herbal Extract if you are taking anxiety or anti-seizure medication. This herb may potentiate the sedative effect of barbiturates. You may feel as if you want to sleep more if you take this herb and pentobarbital (medicine used to help you sleep). Pregnant women should avoid this herb and if you are breastfeeding consult your doctor before taking. Do not take Ashwagandha if you have leukemia and are being treated with chemotherapy. Symptoms of allergic reactions are: feeling cold (decrease in body temperature) or upset stomach.

Natural Cures have been with us for centuries. But navigating the new herbal world can be overwhelming. The most important thing to remember when you are looking for natural health solutions is that the closer a product is to its natural state the better it is for your body.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Life is all about energy. Without energy, there is no life. The world is run by energy, and so is our human body.
There are two types of crucial flows circulating inside our body. They are energy and blood. In Chinese medicine, the energy flow is called “Qi” (pronounced “chi”). We all know how important blood is, it is the fluid of life, but energy is the driving force. Each individual human body is an active energy field. That energy flows to reach every part of the body to support human life. The pathways that energy circulates through are called Jingluos (meridians). They are so vital that they decide how well we live, and in the end, they decide both life and death.
You see, when energy flows though meridians without obstacles, each part of the body gets just the right amount of energy to work well. The heart gets energy to pump enough blood into our vessels; the brain gets the right amount of energy to command muscles and organs to finish their jobs properly; and our bones are strong because of a sufficient energy supply. Our body is in a state of harmony. This harmony is the optimal health condition and we should do everything we can to keep the state that way for as long as we can.
When the pathways start to clog, the energy flow slows down. The energy cannot be transported to its destinations in time nor in a sufficient amount. Our body parts can’t work properly. We don’t have enough energy and motivation to be active. The whole body doesn’t feel well and becomes very susceptible to disease. Without an adequate amount of energy and blood, our organs and body parts start to deteriorate. This is when our health starts to compromise and when we have to act to improve our physical conditions, it is not too late yet.
As more and more meridians are blocked, more and more body parts cannot obtain enough energy and blood. One under working or failed body part will affect others, create more blockages, and result in more under-working or failed body parts. Less and less energy is generated, and less and less fresh blood runs through the body. The vicious circle hence continues until there is no energy being transported at all. That is the end of life.
What Are The Jingluos (meridians), Acupuncture Points and Yin/Yang?
So, what are meridians and how do they work? How do we protect them from being blocked and keep them open and efficient to achieve good health and longevity?
Online pharmacy Mexico
As said before, meridians are the energy pathways inside our body and acupuncture points are the responsive or sensitive points on the meridians. Jingluos actually are Jings and Luos. Jings mean meridians or main pathways. They run longitudinally along the body. Each one belongs to one of the organs (only the twelve main meridians are associated with organs) and each one reflects a nature or aspect that is either Yin or Yang. Yin is moon and means darkness, coolness, moistness, and peacefulness. Yang is sun and means brightness, dryness, warmness, and liveliness. Yang is sky, and Yin is earth; Yang grows everything, Yin shapes everything. The balance of Yin and Yang is crucial. Too much or too little of either will cause disease. Luos mean network. They are the branches and sub-branches of the energy pathways. They spread all over the body, so energy can be transported everywhere. Most time when we talk about Jingluos, we refer to meridians, that’s why we use meridian as a convenient term.
Unlike blood vessels, meridians are invisible. There are no physical conduits or channels through which the flows run, but they do exist, just like the magnetic field of the earth which is invisible. The magnetic lines of force can not be seen by human eyes, but they stretch from the north to the south magnetic poles of the earth. Any pair of magnets will produce a magnet field with the magnetic lines of force curving from one to the other. If you cut through these lines with a conductor, electricity will be generated. This is how an electricity generator works. For more of information about this process, you have to study physics or electricity. Western medical people have tried to find meridians though autopsies, but this approach seems to be misleading. Since a dead body does not have any energy flow, how can you find meridians? just like an out-of-magnet field, you will not find the magnetic lines of force in it. However, when using a device to measure electrical resistance (R) and thermal sensitivities on a human body, the locations where meridians are will have lower electrical resistance values, and the thermal contour lines coincide with the meridians on some parts of the body.
Caroline Myss – An Education in Healing
Thousands of people spend years of their lives studying medicine, but how many spend as much time committed to gaining an education in healing? And once they’ve achieved their own wisdom, how many turn and impart their knowledge to others who are searching? A five time New York Times Bestselling author and pioneer in the field of medical intuition, Caroline Myss is dedicated to expanding not only her own knowledge of healing, but informing and empowering others as well. Caroline Myss has always been intrigued by the topic of healing. She began her career as a journalist, then co-founded Stillpoint Publishing, a company devoted to the fields of human consciousness and holistic health. But providing access to knowledge wasn’t enough for Caroline.
She began her career as a medical intuitive with the aid and encouragement of Harvard-educated neurosurgeon, Dr. Norman Shealy, MD, PhD. After working with Norm’s patients and improving their overall health, she wanted to share her talents with a wider range of the suffering. Her work in this important field led to her co-developing the Institute for the Science of Medical Intuition which funds research in the field. More than 10,000 practitioners are now active in the field of medical intuition because of Caroline’s tireless efforts to promote this important and holistic facet of healing.
Speaking of the personal challenge of healing, Caroline says, “You’re the one trying to heal; you’re not trying to heal anyone else. Healing has nothing to do with someone else being incongruent. Genuine healing rarely takes a safe path. Genuine healing takes a path that incorporates the whole of your life. And people left to their own devices will only take a safe path, they’ll only do what’s comfortable for them.”
In 2003, Caroline Myss founded her own educational institute, CMED (Caroline Myss Education). CMED offers an array of courses in personal development and draws students from around the world. Caroline also developed the field of Energy Anatomy, a science that correlates specific emotional/psychological/physical/spiritual stress patterns with diseases. She works as a medical intuition consultant for physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and other health professionals.
Caroline Myss spends her time educating others in healing. She is an internationally renowned speaker and maintains a rigorous lecture schedule, in addition to her weekly radio show on Hay House Network. Her immensely popular books include The Creation of Health, Anatomy of the Spirit, Why People Don’t Heal and How They Can, Sacred Contracts, Invisible Acts of Power, Entering the Castle andDefy Gravity. It’s difficult to find a person as devoted to learning and teaching about healing as Caroline Myss. Her hard-earned insight and experience expand my mind.
I feel like I receive an education in healing whenever I have the opportunity and privilege to talk with her.
